Our premium suite with open air bath was beautiful, spotlessly clean and spacious for four adults. We were picked up at Kagaonsen Station and taken to the ryokan. The service in this ryokan is impeccable and we just loved the woman who took care of us and served us our meals. Even though we spoke almost no Japanese and she spoke almost no English, we were able to understand each other and she was such a delight! Upon arrival the women in our group were asked to pick out yukatas and obis to wear. Clothing for the men are all the same and are provided in the room. Our luggage was taken up to our room for us and when we got to the room we were served matcha tea and a sweet snack. There is a booklet in the room in English outlining important things to know. We were asked what time we would like our dinner and our breakfast as well as what time we would take the shuttle back to Kagaonsen Station. While some of us used our private open air bath, I used the public bath which I had all to myself. They had an indoor bath and a beautiful outdoor bath. After getting dressed in our yukatas we made our way down to the lounge for the complimentary yuzu sherbert. Dinner was a beautifully presented multi-course meal served in our room and we could barely finish it all. Every night in the lounge, there is music and tonight was an accomplished pianist playing classical music. Our room had two twin beds so two of us slept on the tatami mats. Instead of using regular futons, they put down thick pads almost as thick as a regular mattress and I had a very comfortable sleep. The next morning, we walked around the town (there are complimentary bicycles you can borrow). Breakfast was another beautiful multi-course meal and we had a bit of time to take another bath before catching the complimentary shuttle back to Kagaonsen Station. All in all, a beautiful experience.
